How It Works, From Your Driveway to Cash in Hand
Three steps, and it's usually all done the same day. You need photo ID and about fifteen minutes. We take care of the rest.
Open 7 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week.

Selling a car to Cochrane Car Buyers is genuinely simple. You tell us about it, we give you a firm offer, and we turn up with a tow truck and your money.
You'll need photo ID and a signed bill of sale, which we prepare. Alberta doesn't issue vehicle titles, so there's no title to go hunting for.
The three steps
Tell us about the car
Ring (587) 355-1650 or fill in the form. We need the year, the make, the model and what's wrong with it. You don't need a diagnosis, a VIN or an exact mileage figure. "It's a 2016 Civic and the transmission went" is plenty to work with.
Get a firm offer
We come back to you, normally within the hour while we're open, with a real number. Not a range. If you're happy with it we book a pickup at a time that suits you, evenings and weekends included.
We collect it and pay you
We arrive with the tow truck when we said we would, check the car is as you described, do the paperwork, and pay you in cash or by Interac e-transfer before it goes on the truck. Then it's gone and it's no longer your problem.
How long each bit takes
| Your first phone call | 5 to 10 minutes |
| Offer back to you, while we're open | Within the hour |
| Pickup in Cochrane | Same day, 2 to 4 hours |
| Pickup 45 km out (Airdrie, Bragg Creek) | Same or next day |
| The pickup itself, start to finish | 15 to 30 minutes |
| Getting paid | Before the car is loaded |
From first phone call to cash in hand on a typical Cochrane pickup: under half a day.
What paperwork you need in Alberta
Less than most people think, and the key bit surprises almost everyone.
Alberta doesn't issue vehicle titles at all, and your registration certificate isn't on its own legal proof that you own the car. The Government of Alberta is quite clear about this. What actually transfers ownership here is the bill of sale.
About that bill of sale. It needs the VIN, the sale price, the date and the full details of both of us. Any correction made to it has to be initialed by both parties. Registry agents generally want the original paper copy rather than an electronic signature. The buyer then has 14 days from the date on it to complete the transfer at a registry agent.
| What you need | Why |
|---|---|
| Bill of sale | This is the ownership document in Alberta. We prepare it, you both sign, and you keep a copy. |
| Photo ID | Shows you're the person named on the registration. |
| Registration | Not legally proof of ownership, but it shows the car is registered to you and speeds everything up. Bring it if you can find it. |
- A safety inspection or an out-of-province inspection. The car isn't going back on the road.
- A mechanic's report or a diagnosis.
- Current registration. Expired is fine.
- A clean car. Honestly, don't bother.
- A title. There's no such document in Alberta.
What you don't need
Don't stress about getting the car roadworthy, cleaning it, or digging up documents that don't exist in Alberta. We just need the legal basics to transfer ownership.
If you have lost your registration, it's not a dealbreaker since the registration isn't the ownership document anyway. Give us a call and we'll tell you if you need to make a trip to the registry or not.
Before we arrive
- Empty the car out. Glovebox, center console, under the seats, the boot, the spare wheel well and the visor. Once it's gone, it's gone.
- Take your plate off. In Alberta the plate belongs to you, not the car. A buyer never takes it. Keep it, and you can move it onto another vehicle you own at any registry office.
- Have your ID handy, and the registration if you've got it.
- Sort your insurance out afterwards, not before. Wait until the car has physically left.
The trickier situations
We've seen it all. If your situation isn't straightforward, give us a call. Here's how we handle the most common ones.
Lost your registration
Not a dealbreaker, since the registration isn't the ownership document anyway. You can get a replacement at any Alberta registry agent, usually same day, but ring us first because depending on your situation you may not need to make the trip at all.
There's still a loan or a lien on it
This can often be done, but it has to be handled properly. A lien registered at the Alberta Personal Property Registry means the lender has a legal claim on the car. If the car is worth less than what's left on the loan, the difference has to be settled with the lender. Tell us up front, because this is the one thing that genuinely stops a sale at the last minute.
The owner has passed away
The estate can sell the car, but Alberta Registries needs paperwork proving authority to act. That usually means a probated will or letters of administration, along with the death certificate. Give us a call and we'll tell you what's been needed in similar situations.
It isn't registered to you
We can only buy from the legal owner or someone with documented authority to sell. If it's registered to a family member, they can either be there at pickup or give written authorization with a copy of their ID. If the car was abandoned on your property, that's a separate process and we'll point you at the right steps.
It's registered in another province
Not a problem. We're buying it to dismantle or resell rather than to register and drive, so there's no out-of-province inspection involved. Just bring whatever ownership paperwork that province gave you.
Towing and where we'll come
Towing is always free, and it never comes off your offer. We cover Cochrane and everywhere within 45 km, which takes in Airdrie, Bragg Creek, Springbank, Bearspaw, Crossfield and northwest Calgary.
We can collect from your driveway, your garage, the street, a condo or apartment stall, a repair shop that's finished with the car, a body shop, an impound lot where you've authorized release, or an acreage where it hasn't moved in years.
If the car won't roll, tell us when you book. Seized brakes, missing wheels or no steering just means we bring a flatbed instead of a conventional tow truck.

Getting paid
You get paid before the car is loaded, not afterwards, and never by check later on.
Cash counted out in front of you, or an Interac e-transfer sent and confirmed on your phone. Your choice. Nothing comes off the agreed number: no towing fee, no admin fee, no environmental fee.
Payment Options
Paid before the car goes on the truck. No hidden fees, no deductions.
What it costs you
Nothing. Not for the quote, the visit, the tow or the paperwork.
Questions people ask us
Most pickups in town happen the same day, usually within two to four hours of you accepting the offer, because we're based in Cochrane rather than driving out from Calgary.
Yes. We work around your schedule rather than the other way round, and it's one of the main reasons people pick us over a Calgary company with fixed weekday hours.
Yes, or somebody you've authorized, with the registration, ID and the ability to accept payment.
No. Not for the quote, the visit, the tow or the paperwork.
That's completely fine, right up until we load the car. There's no obligation and no cancellation fee.
Usually 15 to 30 minutes, and most of that is paperwork. If you've a question before booking, our contact details are here. View contact page →
