Who we are
Cochrane Car Buyers started in November 2023.
I'd been towing and buying vehicles for years and noticed every company serving Cochrane was actually driving out from Calgary. They'd only come once they had enough vehicles to fill a run, which meant people in town were waiting days to get a broken car moved.
I live here. Fireside to Glenbow is ten minutes. So I started a business that actually starts the day in Cochrane. An anonymous business is a hard sell in this line of work, and a name and a face is the cheapest fix there is.
What we do
We buy vehicles straight from the people who own them. No listing them online, no haggling with strangers, no waiting around. Most of what we buy falls into one of four situations.
Repair bill bigger than the car is worth
A gearbox on a 2017 commuter car, or an engine that let go somewhere on the Highway 1A run. This is the biggest part of what we do, and often the most valuable vehicle we'll see that week.
Accident, or a hailstorm came through
The insurer wrote it off, or the body shop quote came back higher than the car was worth in the first place.
Something has been sitting for years
In a driveway, a garage, a field, or behind a shed on an acreage. No keys, flat tires, and nobody ever quite got round to dealing with it.
Someone just needs it gone today
Moving house, downsizing, retiring a few work vehicles, or sorting out an estate.
How we work
We give firm offers. Not ranges. Whatever number we quote is what we pay. We treat that as the core of the business rather than a slogan, because the most common complaint about companies like ours is exactly the opposite behavior.
We pay before the car is loaded. Cash in your hand or an e-transfer on your phone, while the vehicle is still on your property. Towing is free and always will be. It doesn't come off the offer and there's no call-out charge.
And we'll tell you not to sell if that's the right answer. Sometimes the repair genuinely is worth doing. Saying so costs us one sale and tends to earn the referral.

Why Cochrane

That kind of mileage reaches gearboxes and engines years earlier than it would on a car that never leaves the city. Add in Alberta's hail season and the steady stream of wildlife strikes on Highway 1A, Highway 22 and Highway 40, and there's no shortage of vehicles around here that need dealing with.
What there wasn't, until recently, was anybody actually based here to deal with them. That gap is why this business exists.
